What are some tips towards feeling happy again during long term unemployment?

I know the feeling! Honestly the only thing that helped my unemployment depression was finding a job. I get paid just above minimum wage but just getting that pay check every two weeks is wonderful. I love the feeling I get when all the bills are paid and there is a little extra left over! I say keep applying, and don't be afraid to work at a store, restaurant, etc. I wouldn't do fast food but those are just my standards. I actually really like my job (work at Walmart) so you can enjoy a lower end job. Then you might want to think about going back to school. There are thousands of careers, you can be happy and still make money! Consider the short-term first, an example is nursing which takes one year (LPN) and pays up to $20 per hour to start depending on where you live. Also I would recommend not listing your education. Half the time employers won't research that sort of thing. It might hurt your chances. I told Walmart I'd been to college and they didn't even want details, to get hired you just have to be liked. the gm gave me a study guide and its so much stuff.. i know its not as much as other restaurants but i have only worked in the kitchen at fast food restaurants and i did really well at that.. anyways i do really well with hands on learning but i want to know some stuff before i go in there .. should i make flashcards with the list of what goes on what burgers? or should i just read over it and let them show me? i want to show some initiative and dont want them to think i never looked at the papers.. what do you think is the best way for me to learn some from the paperwork?

Hamster bedding help?

I really love carefresh paper based bedding, but now that I have Sonny, my new Syrian, I'm going to have to buy a lot more of it. Right not he's in a 10 gallon aquarium, but I feel it is much to small and need to upgrade it some how. Jojo, my other Syrian, is in a 20 gallon long, and that alone takes up a lot of bedding. Right now I used Carefresh natural. I suppose the colored ones are nice, but I never took an interest in them. I usually buy a 60 liter bag ( expanded) from my local pet stores for about $20, It lasts me at most 3-4 weeks. I know there are some alternatives, but I forgot what they were. Anorexia or crash diet?

okay so im 13, 5'4 115 lb. i have bad eating habits and i was wandering if its just a crash diet or like anorexia. so days that my parents arnt home and stuff i usually dont eat anything at all. just water or 0 calorie drinks. when my mom cooks dinner i just say i already ate and im not hungry. but when we go out to dinner like at a restaurant i usually eat a normal amount. because i dont want my parents thinking im not eating enough. and then just try to burn as much as i can off by running down our street or doing exercise videos. i am very insecure with the way i look...i always feel fatter then everyone else. even though i weight the same as most of my friends. if i eat anything i will start to freek out and ill just start running around to try and burn it off. losing weight is like on my mind 24/7. i also have an anxiety problem. so some nites i dont even sleep because im freeking out about how i look. i havnt really lost any weight.....but ive only been doing this for about 2 weeks. and when it comes to how many calories i eat in a day...every day is different. it could be 0 one day and 800 the next. i obsess about calories alot....if the box even says 0 on it, ill go back and check at least 4 times....i dont know why i do that though. and the longest ive gone without eating anything was 2 days i think. so ya i was just wondering if you guys think its just a regular crash diet or an eating disorder. i know im not underweight, so thats why i wasnt sure. (&when i dont eat for 2 days i usually go down to about 110lb). any answers would be a big help(:

i got in chamber choir and so i do what i can to protect my voice. unfortunately as i play sports naturally dirt and sweat builds up on my throat. so when i take a shower i get the wash clothe and scrub my throat area. i have to put pressure to get the dirt off and at times i accidently shove my adams apple about, not too hard. i feel fine so far but i dont want to hurt my throat, is there an easier way of maintaining healthy hygiene on my neck and not hurt my throat?

I know some schools like University of Notre Dame, have a sister school. You can go to holy cross, and take classes at University of Notre Dame. When it comes time to get the degree, you move over to University of Notre Dame and your degree is from University of Notre Dame. You need to prove that you can work under stress - and not be like a fish out of water. Unfortunately, how you appear in the interview for a fast food job reflects how you will be working in these stressful situations. Academics mean nothing in these types of jobs. If you have experience working in a team environment - teaching soccer, currently (not in the past) playing in a sporting team -= these are ways to prove your ability. That is what they are looking for. What they want is someone they can train and has a low probability NOT to move to a better paying job in the future - so do not mention your percieved money problems - that would be a red flag.

How can I improve my singing?

What are good healthy meals to eat for a diet?!? PLEASE HELP!?

Ok so. I'm 12 and I'm around 140 to 143 pounds... I'm trying to lose weight for middle school, since I signed up for show choir. I am looking o lose about 20-30 pounds before Aug. 15, 2011 and right now it's june. So.. I really needs healthy foods that my family can make, or I can make for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I got snacks covered because I eat an apple if I'm hungry. This is what my typical day looks like: I eat a cup of special K cereal (fruit and yogurt) with a cup of skim milk for breakfast, Anything like a sandwhich, LITTLE bit of pasta and lean meat, or meat for lunch and maybe a cup of water. Then I eat a salad, grilled cheese, or potaoes with lean meat for dinner with maybe a cup or two of water. then I MIGHT eat a bite of something sweet literally a bite. I wait 20-30 minutes then I workout for an hour. I dane hard for 30 minutes, do 100 legg lifts, 100 sit ups, and work 12 minutes on an ab machine called ab circle pro. Then I drink plenty of water and take 2 tables spoons of PURE honey 10-15 minutes before I go to bed. I noticed some changes... but not much. BYW I've been doing this for 1 week and 2 days. So please tell me good foods i can eat for breakfast, lunch, and dinner that won' backtrack me and cause me to gain weight, but help me lose weight and stay healthy. ALSO, if you could list any websites that have good info and working out or healthy eating that would be great. OR just tell me foods, and workout things that I can do. Why cant i hit the notes that i hit like two months ago?

Do I have perfect pitch?

If I know a song, and someone asked me to sing the first note, or even the last note, I can sing it exactly on key. I used to do this in choir too. Before the teacher gave us the first note on the piano or pitch pipe, I would already know what the note was. And if I heard a song that was off key, I knew instantly. But i've never experimented with hearing a "B flat" or "C" on an instrument and naming it. Do I still have perfect pitch or am I dreaming?

Why do I cry when I think of GOOD memories of my girlfriend and I?

I'm 15 and so is my girlfriend and we've been dating for 14 months now (excluding a month or so we broke up but we still add that time into how long we've dated). Anyways, we have like around 200 pictures so far from when we started dating and when I look at them for a certain amount of time I actually tear up and eventually even start crying pretty hard. This usually takes place at night. Like I don't know how to explain this but in a way, it's kind of sad tears.. it's really bothering me because I don't know why I'm doing this. Don't get me started on these slideshows we made. For our year anniversary from when we started dating, she made me a TWELVE MINUTE slideshow of nearly ALL of our pictures and added the songs: Amazed by Lonestar (the FIRST song we slow danced to at a birthday party about 10 days after we started dating), Only You can Love Me This Way by Keith Urban and she had All My Life by K-Ci and Jojo. All My Life is the song that gets me the most for some reason. But anyway, when I watch her slideshow, I end up crying really hard and getting my sleeve wet because I cry into my arm when I watch it if it gets bad. Don't get me wrong, I love her very much and our relationship is AMAZING right now, but I get really sad when I think of our memories. I mean even memories where I look back at it and think to myself: "Wow that was literally one of the best days me and her have ever had." Even TWO WEEKS ago during spring break when I went to the beach with her on a Friday and stayed with her until Saturday. I cry about it and I don't know why. My grandmother and I went out to lunch at an asian buffet called Sakura Buffet in Lancaster, CA. My grandmother and I noticed that there was flies going into the food. This is really hard for me to say but from the time that I was ten I became very depressed and from then on I have NEVER lived the life of a child. When I was ten my parents stop letting watch tv or even play with dolls or my friends. I wasn't allowed to go over to my friends houses or do anything that a child should be able to do instead they made me clean and cook and constant bases where now that has become my whole entire life. all that i do is cook and clean, and in my house that is more important than school. When I come home from school instead of being able to study or rest for a little I have to cook and then After that I have to wash dishes and sweep the floor. Then I must take out the garbage. By the time that I am done with doing all of that I only have an hour to do any school work or study and I must maintain my spot on the honor role. So now when I have done all of that I have to use the 2 hour break that I get at school to do all of my school work and I have to skip lunch. On the weekend my life gets even worse I have to cook dinner and then I have to vacuum the house and dust and give the house a full cleaning and laundry I get little to no time to myself and then I just go back into the same routine. My parents seem to believe that I should spend all of my free time cooking or clean with none spend on what I want to do.My friends and family all say that I seem depressed and it has started to show in my everyday life at school I'm an very quite and secluded and my posture is very bad and I always have my head down and the saddest thing is that now that I'm sixteen I don't have a life I smile little or most days not at all and I always look sad and feel sad. I can't go out with my friends or even date a guy. I really want to know if this is the normal life that a sixteen year old should live? The first surgery was so hard for him. I don't know that I want to put him through that again. An if it's come back again in less than 6 months. It'll probably come back again. High school change?!?

You really need to think about what is best for you. If you are really interested in the whole performing arts program that is at Oxford, and you feel that it will do good for you and maybe even your future, I say go to Oxford. This will challenge you and you'll be able to start your own legacy at the school. Sure you'll miss your friends but you'll make new friends, and it's not like you can't hang out on the weekends or stuff like that. I think that you shouldn't base your whole decision on friends, you should base it on what is best for you. And I mean come on, you already found a really nice home that is in the Oxford district, why pass that up? Also, why would you wanna go to a ghetto school? I go to one and trust me, it's not that much fun, you would like it much better at a nice school. I say you follow what is best for you. Don't think about anyone else but yourself for this decision. Job ideas for a teenage vegan?

I'm looking for a summer job or one that I could continue into the school year, and I've run into a problem: being a vegan (one who doesn't consume meat or dairy products), I'd rather not work in a market, fast food store, or restaurant where these products are sold. That the busser receive their tips once a week. As servers go they recieve their tips every night. Now idk how other restaurants work but I've never seen this before in any restaurants I've worked at. I want the same right as a server to claim my tips the next day. Now how it used to go I used to come in before my shift the next day to claim my tips from last night. Okay so i just graduated high school.. The week of graduation was a very stressful time for me because i was trying so hard to pass Pre cal and my legal guardian (my uncle) and i got into a very discouraging argument about what my chances were of graduating.. To make a long story short, i was called a disappointment and all those wonderful things that parents say but sure enough i graduated... After that, i came back to my hometown to find a job to save money for college and i will be here for the next 6 months. I'm pretty positive my uncle is expecting me to move back with him when the six months are over. But I look back on my years of high school... And he really didn't offer much help besides financial help as well as a roof over my head.But with my dad in prison and my mom out of the picture, i really needed some support with my interest in my extracurriculars, and just needed somebody to be there for me. When my dad was around he would do anything to help me in anything i was struggling in. But my uncle suggested i find help from somebody else.. Honestly i felt like he didn't care about what i did at school. I spent my whole high school career in choir. Music is my life. And he would make no compromises to see me perform or at least try to be involved... Maybe i just compared him too much to my dad... but i really needed him and he wasn't there... And I'm sure when i go to college, i will have a hard time getting around since he is so focused on HIS life HIS plans HIS problems...whatever! One of my close friends invited me to move in with them... And honestly i really want to. But I have never been away from my family... I'm not sure how my relationship with my family will change if i do move out. And i dont want to shut them out of my life or anything... but i feel like i need to move away from them in order to grow... I'm just really scared and confused.. I love my family... You were being very obvious. Sometimes, I think we girls don't know how obvious we can be. Chances are your nerves showed and you're clothes made him pay more attention to you letting him notice how you were acting even more. But from what it sounds like don't be concerned if he knows.

Did I eat okay today?

Uh.......How to put this right. You ate crap. If you want to lose weight you have to eat healthy. You need lots of fruits and veggies. I snack throughout the day as well but I eat more healthy. Generally when i wake up I have 1/4 cup of oatmeal with an egg and a yogurt. Then when I want my snack I eat some nuts, fruit or I do something like peanut butter on celery with rasins. For lunch I generally have a ton of veggies with some type of meat and more veggies. Then for snack I eat more veggies if I didn't have it earlier with some hummus(hummus is my favorite dip. It's beans blended with herbs) Then for dinner I have some more meat with a ton of veggies and a serving of rice or a sweet potato. Then I will have a little chocolate here and there that adds up to about an ounce. If you want to lose weight you need to eat healthy similar to that and exercise. I do about an hour of cardio a day and sometimes i get in some toning exercises.

I work in a Mexican restaurant as a hostess. Normally we turn in our hour logs at the end of two weeks and get paid a day later. Well, that's how it was. First of all during undergraduate years you won't be studying law. Law school is after those 4 years of undergraduate. In college pick a major that interests you; law school doesn't require a specific major. It seems like you will be best fit for creative writing or maybe a major in English. HOWEVER, if you are not planning on going to law school, then I would suggest getting a major with employable perspective, otherwise it would be a waste of money and time. Not receiving my water bills because of a wrongly/illegally installed water meter(NY)?

My friend owns a laundromat that is attached to a restaurant(meaning that it has the same address as the restaurant because it used to be part of the building). It used to have one water meter but now that it is split into a restaurant and laundromat, a second meter was installed to the laundromat. However, it has been a year and my friend that owns that laundromat hasn't received any bills while the restaurant has received its bills as usual. Can I not go to my college...?

Here's the deal. I sing Opera and I'm top notch Soprano at my community college and would do anything for music. I've been singing all my life, been in so many programs and choirs and have been taking singing lessons for years. I flew out to New Jersey last December to apply to Westminster College in Princeton, NJ (this school is private, population of 70 students, and is connected to Princeton and if I got accepted I would be a Princeton student as well.) I did a private audition and blew the judges away, saying they would do "anything" to have me as a student and am the best singer they've heard in a long time. After the audition I flew back home waiting for my acceptance letter. I got my letter 1 week later saying they accepted me and offering my $21,000 scholarship towards my tuition. Although the tuition is $40,000 a year, I still need $19,000. The school said they don't give full ride scholarships and the scholarship I got is the best. I called the school many times for financial aid or loans and they said they do not offer anything more than my scholarship and that I can look into bank loans. If I got a government loan I need to co-sign with my parents, but we keep getting denied cause my parents "make too much money." My parents can't pay out of their pocket cause they "Have too many expensive bills to pay." But bank loans interest are SO HIGH! I don't know if I'm getting myself into something I will regret and be in debt for life. But this is a once in a lifetime opportunity and all my professional teachers are saying I can honestly get famous for this for how talented I am...but the financial problem is such a pain. My parents are conservative, so they said if I can't go to Princeton I need to move out and live on my own and work up in a restaurant somehow. I need to go to this school but money is such a problem, I'm stuck. WHAT SHOULD I DO? IS THERE ANY ALTERNATIVES?

Why do girls in their 20's believe anything an older guy will tell her?

First of all I am a 23 year old male and girls my age seem to believe anything a guy in his 30's and up tell her. He is obviously a scumbag and he will feed her these bull crap lines and she goes with it. Sounds like your voice is still developing, it will settle in the long run and probably land somewhere in the middle. For the short term, sing in the voice that makes you comfortable and that you take the least effort o sing in.

Hey guys! I used to work in a restaurant 5 or 6 years ago and some guy bought a white bottle ( I think it was a 1L, but i'm not sure what the size of the bottle is) And it was filled with black liquid, I swear it tasted like crap, and by the way it looked you could even compare it to tar. Anyway he told me to take a sip, I swear, I only took half of the cap (around 5 ml of liquid) and my arms just start moving by itself, it was ridiculous how it worked. I've been trying to find some more info on that bottle, but I really don't know where to look. I think he bought it at some illegal place, but i'm really not sure, it's way too far back. Why do people without children have the nerve to lecture parents about how to raise their own children?

i was at a restaurant yesterday and some young punk came up and decided to lecture me on why it's bad for my child to play around the tables and say hi to people, who do these people think they are, i'm a mom i'll raise MY child how ever i want to so shut the heck up, you wouldn't know anything about children, you don't have any, if you ever decide to grow up and act like an ADULT, you would have children.

Why do people expect you to share your food?

I don't see anything wrong with not wanting to share. If it's your stuff, then you shouldn't have to feel obligated to let other people use them. I remember one time I was at a restaurant and I had this big hearty meal on my plate. But just when I was about to dig in, my father takes a lump of my fish and puts it on his plate. I was really pissed, and then his girlfriend had to talk to me like I was five about how I needed to learn to share. It's not a matter of sharing, it's a matter of taking things without asking. My dad does that all time. People would ask him if he wants the same thing I'm having. He'll say no, but when I get my meal, he'll always grab some of the food I have. Then complain about how selfish I am. When it comes to food, I shouldn't have to share because it's my stomach and I'm hungry. That would mean less food for me to eat. lol

Well, I went to a restaurant with my mom and the guy I thought who was cute was there. His dad is from my town and his mom is from a half hour away. He comes home every other weekend. Every time I see his family members, (Dad, Step-mom, Sisters, and Grandparents) wherever i see any of them, they always stare at me. And, when his 3 step sisters see me, they start yelling out my name, waving, and get all excited. (They are elementary ages). They just stare at me for like 7-12 seconds whenever I see them! My dad's a police officer and his partner hit on me...?

I'm 18 and my dad's close friend and partner at the police department they both work at was at the restaurant I waitress at and hit on me. He was sitting at the bar, probably had been drinking, and called me over when he saw me. We were talking about me going away to college in September when he put one of his hands on my hip nearly touching my butt and said something about moving on to more experienced guys in college. Is it too late for me to major in voice?

I'm 17 years old, and I have been singing in some fashion for most of my life. I sang in a youth choir (2-3 part harmony) for five years, church choir for 3, and I started private voice lessons this summer. My voice is still developing, but at my first lesson, my teacher got me up to a high C#. I still need a lot of work, but I've discovered I love singing. I want to devote considerable study to it, and perhaps even major in it. I'm going to college next year (fall 2012), and obviously I've got to decide if I'm going to do auditions, etc. I suppose I could always transfer in as well. Is it too late to consider/prepare for auditions at a collegiate level? It probably is, but since I've seen a few music teachers out here, I'd love to hear input.

What kind of restaurant is the least stressful to wait tables at?

Right now i work Islands restaurant. Chain family corp- kids eat free tuesdays kind of place. It can be very high volume and customers modifications can drive me crazy- people just make up their own food and it's stressful to have so many modifications all the time. My question is if i serve a higher end restaurant would there be less modifications? I mean, you can't really modify pasta or steak too much, right? Plus, i'm thinking people dining in a nicer place may be more inclined to order the way the chef has designed it- sorta an insult to change it too much- just order what is on the menu. I'm at my wits end and thinking i may need to leave this stress of this bread of restaurant. Please help! SOS!!!!

Dress well. Wear a tie. Speak politely. Maintain eye contact. Never offer more information than is asked. Learn a bit about the hospital before the interview. No jokes. It's a business interview. Easy on the jewelery and easy on the perfume/after shave. Offer a synopsis of your resume. A resume that tells too much is never really read. Especially by a hospital. It usually winds up in the trash. Just not on the resume that 'further explanation of this resume can be furnished'. Good Luck.

If a Church is mostly empty on Sunday, do you consider that Church Spiritually Dead, or just Ineffective?

Many Churches are empty today because they do not embrace diversity, and they are out of touch with the Younger Generation. Young People do not want to go to an Old Time Boring Church, instead they want a vibrant Church that bridges the Generation Gap, with a Youthful Choir and Ministry. The younger generation is more open to diversity than past generations. I think any Church who is not open to diversity and the youth movement will find itself empty at some point in the 21st Century. I have seen this first hand in numerous churches across the land.
