An autistic guy seems to like me even though he doesn seem autistic?

So me and my best friend that is a guy were walking around a church the people in the church were whispering we liked each other and stuff.then the choir director said "i dont think she is ready to open that packadge" (meaning i am not ready to day him because he doesnt have much social skills and stuff.) it seems he likes me a lot even though he is confusing to figure out. (by the way i know he is autistic because his family told me.) we are going on a mission trip this summer and i am wondering a few things. i like him a lot so should i wait? (we have known each other for 8 years) and if he askes me and or tells me he likes me what do i do? i am nervous we are leaving in 26 days?? please help.
